Most people often think that due to their high difficulty exercises, gymnastic rings are a piece of calisthenics equipment only suitable and advisable for intermediate/advanced athletes.
I strongly disagree with this opinion. There are few tools that can build a strong, ripped upper body as effectively as gymnastics rings and the sooner you start using them, the better.
Even though gymnastic ring workouts are among the hardest and most advanced types of workouts, there still are some workouts and routines that are recommended for complete beginners, especially if you have a desk job and sit down all day.
I’ve been practising calisthenics for over 5 years now, and one of my biggest regrets is that I didn’t implement gymnastic workouts sooner in my training routines.
Working out with gymnastic rings will make you work on areas of your body that you most likely have never even worked on before, even if you’re an experienced athlete on the bars.
This is due to the instability of the rings, which force your muscles to do some extra work to stabilize your muscles and keep you from falling down. Be ready for a lot of shaking when you start working with gym rings.
If you’re one of those people that think calisthenics training will never make you big, think again.

It may take more work to get bigger with only calisthenics, but I guarantee you that your workouts will be a lot more fun and motivating than the typical gym workout routines.
Instead of adding more weight as you get stronger, you actually learn new and more awesome movements, most of which not only increase your strength, but also your flexibility, balance, posture and muscle coordination.
And the best part?
You don’t need a gym to workout, you can workout anywhere.
And if you want that extra training, you can carry your gym rings around and hang them anywhere that’s stable enough.
If you still aren’t convinced here are 4 reasons why you should start working out with gym rings right now:
They’re Super Portable
If you’re like me, you probably have been avoiding gym rings for a long time because you simply think that you have nowhere to place them.
But if you’re a beginner you probably won’t be making any advanced exercises, so you can simply place them on a home pull-up bar! You’ll able to do a variety of awesome exercises like ring push-ups, rows, pull-ups, and many others.
They’ll make you insanely strong
The free movement of the rings is one factor that makes ring training so difficult. As gymnastics rings are free to rotate, move side-to-side or up-and-down at any time, you’re forced to stabilize your body, forcing you to use many muscles at the same time rather than isolating each muscle. Fighting the free movement of the rings and correcting the imbalance is incredibly tough but also super effective in building an amazing upper body.
They’ll Help You Build Amazing Grip Strength
As you’ll be hanging from the rings most of the time, your hands and forearms are under constant stress which will help you build awesome forearms muscles and will help your support all other calisthenic exercises
